How to See Your Linked Devices

Signal app ask the users their phone number to identify who they are, which means one have to sign up and log in using their smartphone to use the service. Once it has been done, you can link other devices, like PC or  computer running macOS, Windows, or Linux.

One can only use mobile device with Signal app at a time, but one can link up to five other devices, like tablets/laptops. So one can conclude that one can only have one primary iOS or Android phone linked to their account at any time. One will need to re-register their Signal app if they want to switch from Android to iOS phone or vice versa.

If one wants to know existing linked devices, or to add more, open Signal on your primary smartphone and tap on your profile icon in the top-left corner of the screen. Select “Linked Devices” in the menu that appears to see any other devices you have added. Choose the plus or “Link New Device” button to add another device using a QR code.

Deactivate Linked Devices in Signal

Primary phone having signal app can be used to unlink any connected devices. One can do this by revealing the linked devices by tapping on one’s profile icon in the top-left corner of the app.

Next, select  “Linked Devices” from the menu that appears.

One can unlink a device by swiping left on it and tap on the “Unlink” button that appears. One will be asked to confirm the decision at the bottom of the screen.

When one tries to send messages using an unlinked device, one can see a warning message appearing to let him or her know that they will need to re-link their device to resume normal use.

If one unlink their device, it will delete any chat history on that device, since conversations are not carried over to newly linked devices for privacy reason.
