End-to-end encryption for chats on Instagram allows users to add an extra layer of protection to messages and calls to maintain privacy for senders and recipients. This means that third parties cannot see or hear the messages you send in end-to-end encrypted chat.

How Encryption work on Instagram

Each device for such messages has a "special key" that is used to secure the message. When you message someone in an encrypted Instagram chat, your device locks the message in progress. Messages can only be unlocked by devices with one of the special chat keys.

How to start an end-to-end encrypted chat ?

Step No. 1: Tap on the direct chat button, which can be seen at the top right of your Instagram home feed

 

Step No. 2: Tap on the new message button, which is situated on the top right of your chat list page

 

Step No. 3: Tap on the toggle to turn on, which is beside ‘Use end-to-end encryption’ option

 

Step No. 4: After this, tap on the profile of the account with whom you want to start an end-to-end encrypted chat.

 

Step No. 5: Tap on ‘ok’ on the message that says ‘Your first end-to-end encrypted chat’

 

Step No. 6: Now start your chat

 

Note: Encrypted chats display a lock icon. All end-to-end encrypted chats are displayed separately in the chat list.
